Meeting the Supernanny!

So - yesterday morning I get the call...the Supernanny will be doing a meet and greet after taping wraps for the day at 6:30pm. Then, I get a text...it's actually at 8pm. A few hours later, word spreads it's actually at 8:30! So, I must decide if I really want to meet the Supernanny or if I'd rather just curl up in bed. Tough decision, right. At 8:15, the kids are in bed...the word from my mom friends is that they are already there...and panic ensues...It is no longer a question of if I'll go, it's how fast can I get ready and get there!

Maybe I should back the story up a bit. So, a couple of weeks ago...word spread around the Mommy gossip...no I mean information chain, that the Supernanny was going to be taping at a house in our neighborhood. Shock - amazement...really?!?! Just around the corner? The family has twin boys who are in 1st grade at Jack's school and a 3 year-old little girl. Story has it, that the mom sent a question in to the show and they asked her to apply for the show. They did and here we are. We spoke to both parents while we were waiting and they both praised how amazing this process really is. They said the kids forgot about the cameras in about an hour and that JoJo has given them all kinds of good advice and suggestions that are starting to work ALREADY! They also recommended her new book - if you are looking for one that is. :-)

I'm not sure when taping started...but it is pretty exciting to drive down the street and see all the production trucks, van, etc. One friend even snapped a picture of the Supernanny's car! :-)

A little excitement in the hood! Oh, and did I mention that Extreme Home Makeover is in Tucson this week too?!?! It's just crazy! I'm guessing that there are few on-location cities where crews want to be filming right now. The desert seems like a logical place! :-)

Random pics from the week

We had a random weekend - partially because Ryan didn't feel well...boredom set in...SOOOO the dog got tucked in, the new (gigantic) tent got assembled..seriously - look at the size of that thing (it's 12ft x 10ft x 6ft tall). We just put the boys' mattresses in it for the test run...seriously...it's HUGE..and it has a doggie door (see bottom left corner)?!?! What else...hot air balloon floating across the backyard and spirit day at Jack's school (50's guy).

Ryan's gonna blow!

Ok - not a super fun post - but too funny not to share. So, Ryan came in this morning telling me his tummy hurt and then proceeded to hurl all over the bathroom floor. Bummer...so close to the toliet too! Anyway, he was resting watching tv and Jack was still sleeping. I decided to get on the bike trainer for a workout since Ryan seemed settled and I was going to miss my swim (with my sick kiddo). Not long into the workout - Jack comes bursting into my room screaming..."Ryan's gonna blow!" And apparently Ryan threw up again...this time into the puke bucket...phew. But too funny - Ryan's gonna blow?!?! Why not, "Mom, Ryan's getting sick" or "Ryan needs you" or "???". Can't wait to share that one w/Todd when he gets home! :-) Here's hoping to a speedy recovery!

Pinewood Derby Race Day!

Today was Pinewood Derby Race day! The boys had a great time experiencing their first derby. Everyone, young and old who participated received a blue ribbon and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each den (age group) got trophies. The 1st place winners from each den went on to race in the Pack Championship (all ages) where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners got even bigger trophies! Sportsmanship was a big theme and it was difficult for the first timers (6-7yr olds) to understand that there would be "winners" and "losers", but overall everyone seemed to have fun.

Now - for our results: Jack narrowly took 2nd in the den (having won all of his heats - except one - his is the red car). Ryan took 1st place in the sibling division - in an extremely close "race-off" at the end (Ryan's is the blue car).

We all left proud that we participated and excited and full of ideas for next year's derby.

Happy Birthday to you....Jack is 7 today!

It doesn't seem like 7 years since you arrived and changed our lives forever (our first baby). We still vividly remember the nervous excitement we felt heading off to the hospital to be induced early (6am) Thursday morning, January 3rd. I'd never been in the hospital before and the process of getting hooked up to the machines and getting an IV in was a tad scary - but I knew it was all necessary to have this baby today. We were 12 days overdue and ready to meet our new baby boy - like yesterday (especially since we missed the tax write off for 2001 by 3 days)! After a long, long, long day (I'll spare you the gruesome details)...you arrived at 12:27am on Friday, January 4th. You were big, round, bright-eyed, bald and beautiful! You were surrounded my your nervously excited 1st time grandparents, Grandma Jane, Grandpa Jim, Nana and Papa Winegar. Aunt Lori and Uncle Jeff came to meet you, but had to head back to Oregon when you didn't arrive on time! Happy Birthday Jack...we love you and our proud of who you are becoming, a strong, confident, caring boy!

Now, off for some fun at Funtasticks...an outdoor amusement park!

An update: It rained ALL DAY today. Soooo, the outdoor amusement park looked to be a bust...until...the kids got to play laser tag instead! After initial fear and some tears (and 1 traumatized 6 year old), they played their first game and LOVED it. Laser tag is done in the dark, with glowing laser packs - super fun, once you get over the dark, scary, unknown place thing. Now, all of his buddies are wanting to have their parties at Funtasicks! :-) hehe. Here are a few pictures.

First Flag Football Game

Jack at home - self posed for photo.

Jack had his first flag football game this am. He had a great time, even though only 2 of the players had played football before. The other 4 were newbies...who were actually using a lot of their basketball defense moves on their opponents for the 1st quarter today. To their defense, they've only had 2 practices before today's game. Our newbies spent a good portion of the game adjusting their mouth guards...too much fun.Regardless, these kids know how to run - and they ran and ran today - and won! Go Vikings!

The last two pictures were at home this morning - and totally Jack posed...I gave no instruction. :-) How do they know these things?!?

Another tooth gone!

Well, it's been an exciting Christmas vacation...Christmas, New

Year's and 2 teeth LOST! Should be pretty fun - the top and bottom on the same side. Luckily he's already gotten his permanent teeth in the middle bottom - otherwise biting off stuff would be hard! :-) He's pretty darn exciting to go to school and have 2 teeth on the teeth chart! I'm encouraging him to go for all 4 before Monday! :-)
