Giant Blue Otter Pop???

Today was the first day of Ryan's summer camp, called Tiny Tots. The children are asked to bring a snack and a lunch and because his lunch will be sitting out all morning, I decide to stick a small ice pack in his lunch box to keep his lunch cool. This is a new concept, since during the school year, his lunch is kept in a refrigerator. So, the story goes that today on the way home from his first day at summer camp, Ryan decides that he his thirsty, but finds that he doesn't have anything left to drink in his thermos. My friend Rachel who is babysitting the boys for the summer looks back in her rear view mirror to find that Ryan has poked a hole in the ice pack and is happily DRINKING the contents. Horrified that she has allowed my child to poison himself during the second week she's been babysitting, she quickly pulls the car over. Praying that the ice pack contents are non-toxic, she rips it from his clutches...and luckily it was. Crisis averted, but lesson learned. When you stick foreign looking objects in a child's lunch box, be sure to clearly explain to the child what is edible and what is NOT. My children never cease to amaze me...who would think you would need to explain the blue ice pack intended to keep a lunch box cold is NOT for drinking?!?!

Yikes!! I can see how Ryan could think it was something to drink, but how in the world did he make a hole in it? Scary! Scary! I'm glad it wasn't toxic. Who would think? What is in blue ice? Anyway, I'm glad everyone is fine and lesson is learned! -- Mom

OMG!!! I seriously just gasped aloud as I read this. Good Lord! I never considered that an ice pack would seem like a tasty dessert to a child. Note to self...

Thanks for posting this. It is something I could see Joshua doing, but would have never thought about explaining it to him! Ahhh! Always keeping us on our toes, huh!

Hi Cousin! I just found your blog (through Lori's) and I have to say, that is hilarious! Although, I can't blame Ryan for sucking on the blue slushie-in-a-bag: when a man has been playing hard all day he gets thirsty!
